Rep. Lofgren Lauds Democratic Ethics Reform Package

Washington, DC - Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-San Jose) offered the following statement today on the House and Senate Democrats unveiling the Honest Leadership, Open Government Act:

"As a former member of the House Ethics Committee, I know the aggressive reform package offered today by my Democratic colleagues will go a long way to reverse current Republican excesses and protect the public trust. All of us in Congress must work to restore accountability, honesty and openness at all levels of government. Democrats' Honest Leadership, Open Government plan would create and enforce rules that demand the highest ethics from every public servant, sever unethical ties between lawmakers and lobbyists, and establish clear standards that prevent the trading of official business for gifts. We have a responsibility to ensure that the people's interests are put ahead of special interests."
